There has been some confusion and much debate within agencies and with the CasaManager staff regarding when to relist a child versus when to document reabuse that occurred to the child.

So, let’s break this down so that everyone has the same understanding.

When to select RELIST

The relist function in CasaManager should be selected when a child’s case has been closed in your agency at any point in time, and the child’s case has been referred again for new agency service. The operative word here is that the case has been CLOSED in your agency (even if the court has not closed its case).

You can relist a child’s case from two locations as shown below:

Family/Child>Family Detail>Children>Relist (Blue button to the right of the child’s name)

Alternatively, you can relist a child from the Case Tasks screen as shown below:

Casework>Case Tasks>Case Selector>Select Task>Return/Re-Open Case. *Note: You must first select “Show Closed Cases” before being able to select a closed child to reopen.

Let’s Recap: The relist function’s purpose is to open a new record of service on the same child or children whose case had been closed, without adding a new case to CasaManager, resulting in duplicated records (which skews your data and reports). Listing a new RECORD of service on a child is different from entering a new CASE on a child.

Current Status = Closed (or Never Served).  Example: The case on minor child, JennyXXX was vacated (closed) by the court and closed in your agency. Or, your agency closed its case for any reason, even if the court has kept the court case open. The child, JennyXXX was referred again to your agency for new CASA service pursuant to a new dependency case being filed by the department or the court.

When to select REABUSE:

The reabuse function in CasaManager should be selected when there is a new, substantiated report of child neglect, abuse, or maltreatment while the child’s case is still open in your agency. The operative word here is that the case is still OPEN. This function allows staff to easily track subsequent reports of abuse or neglect while an active volunteer or staff person is serving the child on an open or monitored case.

You can document a reabuse report as shown below:

Family/Child>Child Detail>Reabuse>+Add Allegation *Note: You may need to confirm with the social worker whether or not the new allegation is substantiated and what the resulting action by the department will be.

Let’s Recap: The reabuse function’s purpose is to provide a method of collecting data on new substantiated allegations while the case is still ACTIVE/OPEN in your agency.

Current Status = Active Vol (or Active Staff, Wait, or Monitored). Example: The child, JennyXXX had been returned to mom and the case is still open for monitoring safety plans and mom’s compliance with court orders. The active volunteer or staff receives a report from the social worker or GAL attorney that mom violated protective orders, which put the child at risk, and the child was removed again from mom’s care (or maybe left in the home, but the new allegation was still substantiated).
